The February Birthstone is Amethyst
The February Birthstone color is Amethyst. Amethyst is the gemstone for the 6th year of marriage, and was among the gems in Aaron's breastplate. It is worn by many bishops in the Roman Catholic Church. The color purple, or Fine amethysts are featured in the British Crown Jewels and were also a favorite of Catherine the Great and Egyptian royalty. Amethyst, transparent purple quartz, is the most important quartz variety used in jewelry. Amethyst was thought to encourage celibacy and because of that, the amethyst was very important in the ornamentation of churches in the Middle Ages. Bishops still often wear amethyst rings. This February Birthstone Cross Necklace is the color of Amethyst.
